A Massapequa Park man will not face criminal charges after being accused of punching a police officer in the face at a dog park.
Police were called to a Massapequa dog park in October after a dispute between dog owners. The incident was recorded on a cellphone video.
"It was complete shock. I had no idea what was going on," said Lek Domni. "This officer was accusing me of assault, of punching him in the face, when I never even threw a punch. He was being video recorded."
Lek was arrested and faced charges that included assaulting an officer, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. Those charges were dropped by a grand jury on March 1.
The district attorney released a statement saying, "This matter was thoroughly investigated and the evidence was put before a Nassau County grand jury, which issued a no true bill and this matter is now closed."
Lek says he is now planning to sue the police department.
In a statement, the Nassau County Police Department in part said: "A Nassau County police officer, while attempting to keep the peace and resolve a disturbance, was assaulted and sustained injuries that necessitated medical care. We are disappointed with the grand jury's decision, however, this will not deter us from protecting life and property."
