Cause of crash that killed LI family unknown
Authorities are trying to determine how adriver ended up in the wrong direction on the Taconic State Parkway before a deadly three-car crash Sunday.
Authorities said Monday the victims include the 36-year-oldminivan driver, Diane Schuler, of West Babylon, andher 2-year-old daughter, Erin. Also killed were Erin's cousins:9-year-old Emma Hance, 7-year-old Alison Hance and 5-year-old KateHance.
The other victims in the Briarcliff Manor crash were fromYonkers. They were driver Guy Bastardi; his father, 81-year-oldMichael Bastardi; and 74-year-old Daniel Longo.
Police say Schuler called her brother before the crash to tell him she wasn't feeling well. They also say six calls were made to 911 warning that a minivan was traveling the wrong way. Police are now awaiting autopsy results to determine whether or not Schuler had any medical problems.
Schuler worked in ad-sales for Cablevision, the parent company of News 12 Long Island.
