Holiday gifts were stolen from a toy drive in Bay Shore early Monday morning.
A person was caught on video stealing donated toys from a van at NY Auto Detailing in Bay Shore at 1:30 a.m. Monday.
The hundreds of toys collected from the drive were packed up in the van and ready to be delivered in a few days when they were taken.
Jose Gonzalez, of NY Auto Detailing and an organizer of the drive, says the thief also stole auto equipment.
"The same person that stole all the rims, all the equipment, also stole the toys, and that bothered me more because that was for the kids," says Gonzalez.
Erik Matthews, who also helped with the drive, says he wished the person reached out if they needed help.
"If the guy came to us and said he needed help, we would have helped him, regardless, it didn't have to be this way," says Matthews.
Gonzalez and Matthews say they are not giving up on the drive and will continue to collect toys until Jan. 3.
“It’s not going to stop us, we are doing this anyway even if it has to come out of our own pockets, we are going to make this happen,” says Matthews.
They are holding a fundraiser and toy drive on Saturday.
Toys can be donated at 11 Madison Ave. and 220 Brentwood Road in Bay Shore.
For more information on donating, call 631-796-8956.
