Officials in Darien are warning the public about heavy traffic and delays due to the Route 1 bridge replacement this weekend.
Darien police have described this weekend to News 12 as a “carpocalypse” when it comes to traveling throughout the town and surrounding areas.
They say they will have extra patrols working around the clock to make sure traffic is moving through intersections and that first responders can get by.
Traffic will be detoured off of I-95 for the weekend during construction.
Police say they are concerned about trucks traveling through town.
They are advising Darien residents to prepare and expect gridlock throughout town.
Construction will begin Friday, May 31 through June 3 and finish Monday, June 7 through 10. Construction hours will be from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday each weekend. During the week in between construction, all roadways will be reopened to traffic.
