Car on tracks briefly suspends LIRR service
Service on the Long Island Rail Road's Long Beach line was temporarily suspended Tuesday due to an overturned car on the tracks.Police say the driver apparently had some sort of seizure before she hit a parked car and a utility pole. Her car then flipped over and ended up on the tracks just before 9 a.m. The car sat on the electrified third rail for hours.
The woman and her child were rescued from the car with minor injuries.
Rail service was restored at around 2 p.m. It took workers a few hours to remove the SUV and fix the tracks.
