A unique pet adoption drive is hitting local businesses in downtown Hemptstead.
Through the use of cardboard cut-outs, patrons can take a look at what is available at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.
Business owners throughout the town are being encouraged to display the cardboard pets in restaurants and shops. The shelter has 100 dogs and 60 cats that are in need of homes.
Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray hopes the new program will help spur adoptions throughout the area.
