The MTA released a final draft of its Bronx Bus Network Redesign, which has left many commuters frustrated.
Bronx residents showed up to a town hall discussion at Monroe College on Saturday to express their concerns, mostly for the Bx28 and Bx34 lines.
The Bx28 service may be discontinued on Mosholu Parkway and Paul Avenue. Many residents of the nearby Tracey Towers Development are angry with the proposed plan because it shows that it will operate on Bainbridge Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard instead. Residents are saying this will be an inconvenience for thousands of tenants.
The Bx34 service may no longer run along Valentine Avenue and parts of Bainbridge Avenue. Instead, it will be re-routed along East 204th Street and Webster Avenue. Bronx residents, including commuter Barbara Stronczer, argued that buses already run on Webster Avenue and that it does not need any more buses.
Stronczer gave the MTA an envelope with 200 signatures opposing the suggested changes.
Representatives from the MTA and the Department of Transportation were at the town hall meeting held by New York State Sen. Gustavo Rivera and Bronx Community Board 7.
“There’s definitely a lot of concern and this is why I wanted to make sure that we have an opportunity to have a real conversation and answer questions,” Rivera said.
Nothing is set in stone as the redesign is a draft.
Another public hearing is scheduled on Feb. 20 at the Bronx Museum of Arts. The MTA and DOT hope to implement the project this summer or fall.
