Bronx parents worry school buses are not safe
After a 3-year-old boy was left on a school bus for six hours Thursday, Bronx parents say it is not uncommon for young children to be left on school buses, despite a statement from the Department of Education that says otherwise.
One parent, Jenice Zayas, says her child was left on the bus on the first day of school for two and a half hours. She no longer allows him to ride the bus because she feels the risk is too great.
According to the DOE, children are rarely left unattended on the school buses.
?This does not happen often,? a spokesperson for the DOE says. ?Safety is our primary concern and we have regulations in place that call for suspensions whenever we hear about allegations such as these.?
Parents also complain that their children are not accounted for once they arrive at school. Some parents believe the schools should take legal action against the bus company to prevent further incidents.
