A long wait to take the GED exam has one Bronx community group busing people out of the borough to further their education.Test takers travel as far away as Dutchess County so they can get their GED, thanks to the Citizens Advice Bureau. The organization says obtaining a GED or high school diploma is vital to entering the workforce. The group absorbs thousands of dollars in transportation costs.Tom Dunn, of the New York State Education Department, acknowledges there aren't enough seats at New York City's walk-in GED test sites. He also says many people take the exam when they're unprepared, tying up resources for others who are ready. Education officials say they are examining ways to expand testing facilities.
