Bronx boys' school expansion moves forward
A City Council subcommittee approved a plan Tuesday to move a Bronx boys' school to a new location on 176th Street.A hearing was held regarding the Eagle Academy, which currently shares space with the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice. However, Eagle Academy officials say the school does not have enough room to accommodate their student body. The founder of Eagle Academy says the lack of space inhibits the school?s ability to carry out the school?s mission; to help young men face the challenges of urban life. If approved by the entire City Council, a four-story building would be constructed, allowing the school to expand to grades six through 12. Officials say the new school would open on the new site in the fall of 2009.
