Bronx Borough Pres. Carrión to run for comptroller
Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr. announced his 2009 run for city comptroller Thursday.
Carrión, who some expected to announce a mayoral run, officially threw his hat into the ring after he addressed the Association for a Better New York breakfast at a Manhattan hotel.
The borough president bolstered his achievements since taking the helm in the Bronx when he was elected in 2001. He touted his redevelopment accomplishments, such as the new Yankee Stadium, which created jobs for local residents.
The comptroller post, currently occupied by William Thompson Jr., involves managing a budget close to $105 billion. The comptroller oversees the city's financial well-being while making recommendations about programs and spending.
Carrión didn't rule out a future run for mayor and some political analysts believe the comptroller position could be a steppingstone.
