Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted the annual Veterans' Appreciation Breakfast today as part of Bronx Week.
Veterans from all over the borough were honored for their service, including a 104-year-old Army veteran who fought in World War II.

Over 200 veterans gathered for a meal at Maestro’s Dining Hall, as Borough President Diaz Jr. and the Veterans Advisory Council celebrated them.
The brunch is part of Bronx Week, a series of events that shines light on people and businesses that continue to make a difference in their communities.
Many of the veterans are born and raised in the Bronx and share memories of when they enlisted, dating as far back as 1915.
The event also had a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in war including Bronx firefighter and Marine Staff Sgt. Christopher Slutman, who died last month in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan.
Veterans tell News 12 the event recognizes the achievements and contributions many heroes continue to make for their communities.

Borough President Diaz Jr. also says his goal with the event is to raise awareness of the services that thousands of veterans are still in need of.
