Bogus PSEG reps demanding in-person meeting, gift card payment

Suffolk County officials are warning PSEG Long Island customers Wednesday of a phone scam asking them to meet a company representative in person to pay their bill with a gift card.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says a number of people have received fabricated automated recordings that claim to be from PSEG Long Island over the past several weeks.
They were told they must meet a company representative in person to pay their bill with a gift card or have their electricity cut off within the hour.
One of the scams even had a PSEG Long Island caller ID.
PSEG Long Island says it doesn't demand immediate payments over the phone.
Police say if anyone has a question about someone demanding money over the phone, they should contact their local precinct.
