Sen. Richard Blumenthal will unveil legislation this week that aims to prevent kids from being stuck in hot cars.

Blumenthal's legislation would require automakers to install a special device that would sound an alarm and the car's horn if a child is left inside once the vehicle is off and everyone else gets out.

The device works by sensing the weight of a child in the backseat.

Blumenthal says the device is already optional equipment in some cars.

The potential change comes after a 4-year-old from West Haven died after being found in a hot car Thursday.
