A Suffolk County legislator is proposing a law that would place GPS devices on people issued orders of protection in connection with domestic violence.
Legislator Kara Hahn's bill will be voted on next Tuesday.
The goal is to warn victims of domestic violence and probation officers when someone is about to break the order of protection.
Some say the current system amounts to little more than a piece of paper that is easy to ignore.
If the plan becomes law, it would authorize the use of GPS devices in domestic violence cases involving an order of protection.
A similar program is about to begin in Nassau County.
