A Bethpage man who murdered his wife in front of their children was sentenced Monday to 47 years to life in prison.
As News 12 has reported, Robert Crumb was convicted in the November 2016 stabbing death of Maria Crumb, who had filed for divorce earlier that year. Prosecutors say the couple would fight regularly and were sleeping in separate bedrooms at the time of the killing.
According to prosecutors, the couple's children tried to stop their father from killing their mother, and that’s when Crumb attacked his teenage daughter with a knife. He then led police on a high-speed chase and crashed into pumps at a Brooklyn gas station before charging at a police officer, knocking him to the ground unconscious.
Prosecutors and the victim's family say Crumb has never shown remorse for killing his wife.
Maria Crumb's mother, Patty Kontonis, says justice is served, even though she'll never see her daughter again.
"He hated my daughter and that's why he killed her, that's what he did. He just could not stand my daughter. But he's getting his now," she says. "It won't bring my daughter home, but I got what I wanted."
News 12 reached out to Robert Crumb's lawyer for a comment but has not received a response.
