Blowing through stop signs and disobeying do not enter signs are common occurrences at the corner of Colonial and Ontario roads in Bellerose Terrace, according to residents there.
Some cars have been caught on camera blatantly disobeying traffic laws, including barreling through a pair of do not enter signs and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
One video specifically shows two cars in a row driving right past the do not enter signs.
News 12 also spotted numerous drivers failing to obey the stop signs at the intersections. The corner was crowded with kids looking to cross the street at one point.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen says the town is planning to install a crosswalk and restrict parking to ease congestion. She says she is asking police to step up patrols in the area.
Neighbors say drivers often use the street as a cut-through and that it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.
"They just don't listen or follow the signs," says Bob Callaghan. "They just do what they want."
A Nassau police spokesperson says 58 traffic tickets were written at Colonial and Ontario roads from the beginning of 2018 up until Nov. 7, which they say is substantial for a side street.
