Concerned Long Island parents and educators aired their grievances about the Common Core curriculum in front of a new state committee Friday.

Members of the governor's Common Core Task Force, including state Sen. Carl Marcellino and a superintendent from Valley Stream, held a two-hour listening session at Stony Brook University.

Task members heard from parents and educators concerned with standardized testing. Over the past three years, Common Core tests and curricula sparked protests and test boycotts, with parents pulling children out of standardized tests.

Many in attendance Friday called for the end of the Common Core.

"We want a recall of the Common Core State Standards and we want a say in what should replace it," said Rosalie Panthaki, of Garden City.

What changes, if any, will be made remain to be seen. The task force will make its recommendations to the governor next month.
