Baldwin doctor William Conway gets 8 years for writing illegal oxycodone prescriptions
A Baldwin doctor was sentenced to eight years in prison for writing thousands of illegal prescriptions for painkillers.
Dr. William Conway, 71, pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to illegally distribute oxycodone. A judge also ruled Conway was responsible for the overdose death of a patient, who had been prescribed the drug for no medical purpose.
Prosecutors say Conway was issuing an average of 163 oxycodone prescriptions per month between 2009 and 2011.
