Baby girl remains in critical but stable condition at Bronx Lebanon Hospital after near-drowning
A 1-year-old girl remains in critical but stable condition at Bronx Lebanon Hospital after nearly drowning in the bathtub Wednesday.
Police are still investigating how the baby, whose name is Leslie, got into the bathtub. Published reports say her father had stepped away briefly to go to the kitchen. Neighbors who live below the family in the Mount Eden apartment say water from the bathtub began to leak into their apartment. Moments later, neighbors say the father rushed out of the building with Leslie in his arms, screaming for help.
Witnesses say a friend took Leslie and ran in the direction of the hospital and at some point, a police officer brought her the rest of the way.
Leslie's sibling has been taken into custody by the Administration for Children's Services. Police aren't saying whether the father will be facing any charges.
