Authorities charge 19-year-old in shooting of Camden officer
Authorities have charged a 19-year-old man they say shot a Camden police officer in the thigh at point-blank range.
Camden County police say that Officer Patrick O’Hanlon approached three people who were acting suspiciously just after 10 p.m. Wednesday in Camden. One of the people, Delronn Mahan, ran away when O’Hanlon approached, according to police. Police Chief Scott Thomson says the officer caught up to Mahan, who pulled out a gun and fired during a struggle.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said that the Lindenwold resident was charged Thursday with attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons charges and resisting arrest.
Mahan was apprehended, and fellow officers applied a tourniquet to the wounded officer's leg. He was listed in stable condition.
Camden County police posted a photo on Twitter of O’Hanlon sitting up in his hospital bed, calling him a “hero cop.”
It wasn't immediately known if Mahan had an attorney to comment on his behalf.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
