Heavy metal records and memorabilia linked to Neo-Nazism were being sold at an antique store in Patchogue, according to photos sent in by a News 12 viewer.
The viewer sent pictures that show records and T-shirts sold from bands that play “National Socialist Black Metal” – which is said to promote Nazi ideologies.
The hateful material was found late last month at Antiques & Collectables on Waverly Avenue, which is next to a Jewish center.
James Skidmore, the president of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, said “this is the type of stuff I don't want to see in our community.”
“We don't accept racism in Patchogue, we don't accept it in Brookhaven Township, we don't accept it in Suffolk County, we don't accept it anywhere,” said Skidmore.
The owner of the shop, who would not go on camera, says he rented out space in the store to someone else, and that's how the offensive content got there.
He claims he had no idea the records were racist, and says he immediately kicked out the vendor once he found out.
The administrator of the Jewish center next door told News 12 that he has a good relationship with his neighbor, and that he'd like to keep it that way.
