Amtrak announced it's going to be closing some tracks at Penn Station to renew the aging infrastructure over the summer. 

Amtrak's CEO said it's a job that was supposed to take a few years but is now expected to take a few months. 

The impact of the faster timeline is still unclear and no specifics have been released yet about which tracks will close.

Amtrak said details of the summer plans will be announced soon.

The announcement comes after recent weeks of delays and cancellations due to electrical and rail problems at Penn Station. 

Commuters who spoke to News 12 Long Island said the last few weeks have been frustrating. 

"I think people are, rightly so, really annoyed at the price we're paying," said Debra Richardson, of Huntington. 

Amtrak also announced that it will review ways to improve the concourse level and is proposing the development of a joint operation center inside the station.
