A Brentwood man was charged with DWI after he allegedly struck a pedestrian and fled the scene early Friday morning.
Police say Alejandro Diaz, 33, was driving his pickup truck eastbound on Suffolk Avenue when he veered off the road and hit a pedestrian at around 3 a.m. Friday. The pedestrian, 22-year-old Mark Pamphile of Central Islip, was taken to Southside Hospital with serious injuries.
Diaz allegedly tried to run from the scene, but police say they quickly caught him.
Diaz was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident. He will be arraigned Saturday.
