Adelphi University holds vigil for Newtown (12/20/12)

GARDEN CITY - With heavy hearts, 70 members of Adelphi University gathered for a candlelight vigil in memory of 26 victims of the Newtown, Conn. tragedy.

The group read the names of the 20 children and six faculty members of Sandy Hook Elementary School who were gunned down last Friday.

Among the speakers at the vigil was Hashim Garrett, a victim of gun violence.

At age 15, Garrett was partially paralyzed when a teen with a grudge shot him six times with a sub-machine gun.

Garrett called for tougher gun control laws to honor the Sandy Hook victims.
