Police are looking for the person who abandoned a newborn girl Wednesday under a tree in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx.

Police say a passerby found the 1-day-old infant and called 911. Authorities say the baby?s umbilical cord was still attached, but the infant is in good condition. They believe the child was not there long and was delivered at home.

Officials say the mother could have left her baby at a police precinct, hospital or firehouse to avoid criminal charges.
