About a dozen towns across the Garden State postponed Halloween Thursday due to a rainy forecast.
This is the first time that this has happened outside of a state of emergency like Superstorm Sandy in 2012 or the late-October snowstorm of 2011. Is this the new trend? Rescheduling Halloween if the weather is less-than-perfect?
News 12 New Jersey’s Brian Donohue visited North Plainfield on Halloween, one of the towns that moved trick-or-treating to Friday. He says that he found many children out in their costumes regardless of the rain.
Donohue also encountered some adults who said that the rain wouldn’t stop them when they were kids, so why should it stop kids now?
“Rain and snow and the kids still come out. And they don’t get any smaller. They don’t shrink because of water,” says resident John Knevals.
Neighbor David Branan said that he made sure that he bought enough candy for both days of potential trick-or-treaters.

“I expect there will be people tonight and then I expect the people from North Plainfield who are on social media are going to show up tomorrow...we are prepared," he says.
Trick-or-treating was still on in neighboring Plainfield. Barber Hector Sache says that Plainfield residents will trick-or-treat through anything.
“We’re nice and tough,” he says.
In addition to North Plainfield, Mantua Township, Millville, Ocean City and Roxbury Township have also postponed Halloween until Friday. Upper Pittsgrove moved trick-or-treating to Saturday. And South Plainfield added Saturday as an additional day of Halloween.
Hammonton in Atlantic County had trick-or-treating Wednesday night.
