Four people, including two children, were found dead when firefighters were called to an apparent arson fire at a mansion in Colts Neck.
Investigators remained at 15 Willow Brook Road, the scene of the fire, Tuesday evening. The fire was first reported around 12:45 p.m.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said that the fire was intentionally set. He said that the body of a man was found outside the home and the body of another adult and two children were found inside. He said that the bodies were burned severely as a result of the fire.
The identities of the victims have not been made public, but public records show that the home is owned by Keith and Jennifer Caneiro.
Gramiccioni said that it was too early to tell if a fire at a home on Tilton Drive in Ocean Township early Tuesday morning was connected to the fire in Colts Neck. Public records seem to indicate that the Ocean Township home was owned by a relative of the Caneiros.
“That remains to be seen but that is an option or angle that we continue to pursue,” the prosecutor said.
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death for the victims.
Officials said that 20 different fire crews responded to the fire. Gramiccioni said that a firefighter was hurt in a fall, but he said that she is expected to be OK. No other injuries were reported.
Gramiccioni said that anyone who might have any information, no matter how small, regarding the fire, should contact the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office of Colts Neck Police Department.
