Bridgeport police say they have arrested a second person in connection with a murder that took place last year.
Authorities say Robert Jones, 61, was killed on Dover Street by his niece in February of last year. They arrested Tynisha Hall, 35, shortly after the killing.
Now investigators have arrested Brent Whiteman, also of Bridgeport, in connection with the same murder. Police Chief AJ Perez says investigators believe that based on extensive forensic evidence, Whiteman helped Hall commit the murder.
"He tampered with the evidence and then abused the person involved in such a way that the person lost his life," Perez says.
Authorities allege that Hall, a licensed caregiver, beat her disabled uncle to death and then propped him up in a chair with a lit cigarette between his fingers as a way to throw off investigators.
The recent arrest has neighbors even more confused at what actually happened.
"I've never seen that man over here," said Janice Northrop. "Unless they've come and gone in the back of the house but I've never seen him."
Police have never said what the motive was in the alleged murder.
Whiteman is being held on $1 million bond.
