Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision in East Farmingdale Sunday night, and police say one of them may have been intoxicated.
The crash happened on Route 109 at around 11 p.m. Investigators say 46-year-old Susan Krebser, of Levittown, was driving in the wrong direction when her Buick crashed into a Kia sedan.
The driver of the Kia, identified as 70-year-old Jeanne Grazia, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Krebser was also hospitalized, but was pronounced dead Monday morning.
Police say they had intended to charge Krebser with driving while intoxicated after officers detected a "strong odor of alcoholic beverage" on her. Detectives say they are trying to retrace Krebser's evening to determine how she ended up driving the wrong way on Route 109.
Grazia was known in her Islip neighborhood as an avid gardener. Family members say she worked as a greeter at the McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home in Farmingdale and was just heading home from a shift when she was killed.
Police say safety checks will be performed on both vehicles. They are urging anyone who may have information on the crash to contact them.
