Authorities confirm two suspects were arrested in the shooting of two NYPD officers in the Bronx.
The wounded officers have been identified as 30-year-old Andrew Dossi and 38-year-old Aliro Pellerano, both from Rockland County. They were off-duty and working as part of a plain clothes anti-crime unit out of the 46th Precinct when they were wounded in Fordham at around 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Dossi was shot in the left arm and back, while Pellerano was hit in the left arm and side. They are in stable condition at Saint Barnabas Hospital.
Police say the officers were responding to an armed robbery at a grocery store, which was caught on camera, when they spotted Jason Polanco and Joshua Kemp at East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue. As they approached, Polanco entered a Chinese restaurant where he was captured on surveillance again. Both videos have since been released to the public.
Investigators say Polanco came back outside as officers approached the other suspect on the street and began shooting, forcing the police to fire back, but they were wounded in the exchange. A black revolver that is believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered near the scene.
Police say Polanco carjacked a white Camaro on Marion Avenue. The vehicle was later found abandoned near East 188th Street and Park Avenue.
Police say Kemp later walked into New York-Presbyterian Hospital with a gunshot wound. After questioning, it was determined that he was the second suspect.
Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke about the incident, praising the two officers who he said went back onto the streets after their shift was over because they received a call about the robbery. He says they went "above and beyond the call."
Polanco faces several charges including attempted murder. Kemp is being charged with armed robbery.
Bratton says Officer Pellerano is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday.
