What seemed at first to be just trick-or-treating on Halloween quickly became a scary situation for a Quogue auto body shop owner.
Ulises Galdamez says his grandfather got to the auto repair shop they own together on Midhampton Avenue Wednesday afternoon when a man wearing a mask approached and asked for candy.
Galdamez says his grandfather went to get candy, but then a second man approached. That's when he says it was clear the two were not trick-or-treaters.
He was then attacked, but Galdamez says he and another employee fought back. Surveillance video shows the two chasing the suspects out of the shop.
Police say Jason Hutson, 33, and Shaun Worthington Jr., 19, were arrested a short time later when the Riverhead residents were spotted in a car in Hampton Bays.
The two were arraigned on charges of attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and burglary. Worthington was also charged with assault.
Hutson's attorney says the charges are merely allegations, and that his client looks forward to airing his complaints out in court.
Worthington's bail is $150,000, while Hutson was not given bond due to a 2004 robbery conviction.
Galdamez says it was a relief that the suspects were arrested.
"For someone to attack him the way they did, the way I saw my grandfather yesterday, it's very upsetting, it's a cowardly act," says Galdamez.
Galdamez says his grandfather is now home recovering.
