Hundreds of people stood in the rain Saturday to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11.
One-hundred names were added to the memorial wall at Responders Remembered Park in Nesconset. The names belong to people who passed away from illnesses contracted at the World Trade Center site after the terror attacks.
John Feal, of the FealGood Foundation, says that while some may have forgotten Sept. 11 and moved on, those in attendance prove that was not the case.
"The spirit of the American people shined through on a rainy day and you saw what happened, the sun came out," Feal said. "I believe it was for the love of their loved ones on the wall."
Since the memorial was first unveiled in 2011, more than 500 names have been added.
The FealGood Foundation is also fighting in Washington to renew the Zadroga Act, which is the national fund set up to compensate Sept. 11 victims who got sick or died following the attacks.
The act is set to expire in October and will run out of funds next year.
